Whoa. Now I feel kinda unfortunate that I have a WD ATA100 40 GB 7200
drive...Is it that a sizable percentage are lemons, or are they (were they)
all just made wrong? I thought this drive worked perfectly, but the other
night I had a screen freeze. When I tried to restart, only the fan came on,
not even the light! No boot. After toying with it awhile, it finally booted
but then crashed even worse. After an hour of noodling with the power on
switch and keyboard, I got the Beige G3 to boot from an OS9 disc. I
reorganized my files and threw out some things, Then ran NDD(ouch, I can't
do nothin right!) and once I restarted, somehow thee prob was gone. A buddy
said it might be a prob with the power supply or something, but all these
negative testimonials make me wonder if its the HDD? I got it at CompUsa
(arggh, three newbie strikes) about 2 months ago for 99$...I just checked
the box and it doesn't say special edition so I guess its the sucker
addition....But I still dunno if the HDD caused the crashes or was just
disabled by some other hardware prob...I did have a crash or two recently
when I hotplugged in or out to my FW port. Once just firing up the printer
invited crashland....Any ideas, bright ones?
Thanks,
Rob
