Hi,

well, I have used Macs since 1988 and I have worked several
years with VMS but I don't have unix experience.
Because of that, I am running OS X all the time, I want to gain
knowledege about it.

The weird thing is that I use almost only programms that run under
Classic. The only carbonized programms are iCab and Eudora (they are
free). I even do programming with MPW under Classic.
My first partition has OS 9.2.2 and all my programs and data-files.
The second partition has only OS X 10.1.5 and Classic, the third is
a dedicated swap partition.

The reason is the lack (AFAIK) of a "real" Back-Up programm that you
can use to make a multivolume backup of your system disk (to tape or
MO), so that you can restore it quickly in the event of a crash.

I know about Carbon Copy Cloner, but I have a B/W and it cannot boot
from a firewire drive and I don't like to have a 2nd internal drive
spinning only for backup.
If you use the "live restore" from Retrospect, you must first install
the same system version that you are restoring, that means to install
first a zillion patches, so why should I want to use it ?

So, I can quickly restore my OS 9.2.2 partition and be up and
running in a matter of minutes.

When will someone come with a bootable CD that you can use to run
such a Backup ?

Rgds, Fernando
