<chuckle> I guess we're starting to develop a divide among the faithful --
we have the followers of the new-age religion, OS X (claiming to be the
*original*, *better* and more inclusive (one crash doesn't = system crash)
one (but it is compatible only with new ideas (apps)) clashing with the
established religion (who also claims to be the original one, but is losing
touch with current ideas and trends (apps, multitasking and protected
memory))... the cult of the Mac really does resemble the vagaries of
religion in the way we ardently defend our own & attack the other ;)

Anyway, I think (can't say from too much experience) we'll find that OS X is
a lot less prone to suffering from a melt-down like OS 9 is/was.

In over a year I haven't *had* to reinstall OS X because of corruption (I've
re-installed three times -- once to repartition after determining I liked OS
X but wanted it on a larger partition, once to start fresh when OS X 10.1
came out, and once more to repartition to get rid of my previous
partitioning mistake (too many partitions)).

By comparison, I've *had* to re-install OS 9 at least twice, and I would
usually re-install OS 9 at least once/year simply to clean up the damage
that installing & uninstalling OS 9 causes. I also haven't noticed many
people here saying they've had to re-install OS X because of
corruption/problems (in fact, for a "rough" OS it's remarkably solid at the
core).

Right now, I'm thinking of repartitioning my drive again to give OS X more
room (3 GB right now, 1 GB free on average) and take away room from OS 9
(7.5 GB... don't know why it needs that much when I don't use OS 9 for much
anymore).

Eric.
