Hi Phil: That's the problem, I'm not subscribed to anything that I'm aware of. Nothing shows up when I click the "update subscriptions". I've got a lot of "favorites", but I usually get notices direct from the site that something they have is updated and please go to..... I've found that by subscribing to sites, it's almost a guarantee to receive loads of Spam within a couple of days. The rest of the stuff I usually get through VersionTracker Pro or through Mac Software Update via 9.2.2 and 10.1.5. I've looked in my extensions for an icon similar to the one that is flashing and I can't find one. I've also gone through almost 50% of my files looking for a similar icon and again, it's not there. This is the first problem I've had like this on my G-4 and while it's not serious, it's very annoying just seeing that flashing icon. I'll try deleting the "finder" preferences and see if that corrects it. Thanks for the suggestion, I am very tired this evening and while it's the most common "fix", it just blew right past my feeble brain.
