Hi,
with RAID you can get a redundant system, that could survive
the failure of a disk.
In a multivolume back-up, you make a restorable copy of your disk
across several CD-RW, magnetic bands or MOs.
For example, if you have a VAX or an Alpha running VMS with a disk
drive called dka100: and a tape drive called mka300: you proceed as
follows:
1) Boot from CD-ROM and load the stand-alone BackUP utility
2) Type:
$ backup/image dka100: mka300:mydisk.bck/save_set
3) The backup starts, if the tape is fulled you get a prompt to put
another one.
At the end, you have a file called mydisk.bck, extended over
several tapes (if necessary)
To restore to disk, you use the opposite command and so get a bootable system.
Rgds, Fernando
