I need to find out the proper way to remove the HD (so I can put in a bigger one, etc). I've got the PDF of the G4 Cube manual, so there's gotta be one for the B&W floating around somewhere. I have an Apple PDF file for this. Don't know where I got it. If you can' t get anything better, email me and I shall send it to you if you wish. But when I did that operation [actually put in an extra HD] I found the xlr8yourmac instructions much better - in colour too! Um. Notice: Apple aims to shutdown, sue, what-have-you anyone that has or distributes service manuals. They are for certified Techs only. There are a few rules with LEM about this: 1) Never, ever post a URL where you can find said Service Manuals 2) Never offer such manuals if you have them (either legitimately or other) 3) List Nannies and List Mom reserve the right to terminate the account of such a user. In the future emails which contain the next "service manual" will be deleted and not sent to the list. A warning email will be sent to the user that sent the email and administrators will be notified of such an email and receive the original text. I thought I should warn everyone. Let's try to keep LEM online and Dan Knight's CobWeb Publishing in business please. -- Ryan Coleman Systems Administrator LowEndMac's LEMlists.com AIM: lowendmacemail [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lemlists.com/ (612) 378-7901 Um. The PDF file which I have is not, repeat not, a S**** M*****. Lest there be no mistake, implication or imputation here I quote from the introduction to the document: Quote [Title of document] Important Information about Hard Disk Drives. Contains updates for Power Macintosh G3, Macintosh Server G3, and Macintosh Server G3 with Mac OS X Server computers. [Introduction] Congratulations on purchasing your Power Macintosh G3, Macintosh Server G3, or Macintosh Server G3 with Mac OS X Server. This update contains important information about *how to maintain, repair, and reinstall some software on an optional 36 gigabyte (GB) hard disk *how to install or replace internal hard disk drives *what kinds of devices work with the optional SCSI card installed in some models The information about installing drives and connecting drives to the optional SCSI card supersedes information contained in the setup manual that came with your computer. Unquote Note the phrasing "Congratulations on purchasing your Power Macintosh G3, ..." and "your computer". Not S**** M**** language. The PDF document is an Apple issued document obviously intended for users and as is clear from the excerpts I have quoted the document is an update of the paper Setup Manual which was included in the box with the computer when purchased new. I have compared the PDF document with the paper Setup Manual which came with my BWG3 and where there are differences between them, those differences are the updated specifications and instructions as detailed in the PDF document. The illustrations of how to install a Hard Disk which are in the PDF document are identical to the paper Setup Manual. Ryan, I understand your concern over the S****** M****** distribution problem. That is widely known and has been regularly brought up in lists such as this for some time. And I also appreciate that some newer members may not be aware of it so it can be a good idea to post a reminder now and then. I would not post a S**** M**** on a list like this. Similarly I appreciate that you would not have known the nature of the PDF document to which I referred as for brevity's sake I did not go into any detail of the content and did not describe it as above. But as you chose to include my reponse to the original poster with your "reminder" the imputation [however unintended] was that I was breaching list rules [to say nothing of tempting the wrath of Apple <G>] I wish to set the record straight and believe I am entitled to this right of reply. I am still prepared to offer the PDF file and would defy anyone to prove to me that it is a S****** M******. It is a User Manual. Nuff said. This is a great list and I have gained enormously from it. By offering the PDF file I hoped merely to put something back into the list. ........ Peter Sealy Thurgoona, AUSTRALIA -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
