You don't need to install both, but I would if I was you, I'd install 
9.x first, and then OS X. Also don't forget that you have to install 
OS X onto a drive of less than 8GB or on a partition of less than 8GB 
in the first half of the drive.

When I recently installed an ATA/66 card in my beige I forgot about 
that rule and put the OS X partition in the second half of a drive, 
and the result was no boot.

You won't have any video accelaration in OS X until you update it to 
10.1.5, that's when Apple finally started supporting the onboard 
video on the Beige's.
