well, unix certainly makes sense on the newer macs in particular, but
more because they have the processing power.  remember unix was
developed on ancient processors that were cisc, not risc, long before
the terms themselves were even in the literature.  and many people run
*nix on a 68k based machine or even those truly ugly x86 machines.  i
suspect it's partially due to better implementations of *nix that run
faster/better now that the various pieces of code involved have been
tweaked.  i first used unix on a pdp 11 computer, and was learning
assembly language at the time, it was definitely a cisc processor but it
ran unix just fine.  (ps, i've got a stack of nearly useless pdp 11 tech
manuals if any archeologist are out there).  i think it's more that the
anger and frustration people have felt towards windows has helped spawn
a new interest in *nix and that mac users have indirectly benefited from
that.  i guess gates has unintentionally done a few good things and help
spur innovation after all.
