>Will this printer work on a beige G3 or will I have to get the Mac version? >I want to use it on my PC but also would like to possibly use it on the g3 >as well. Also, will this work with the newer power macs (g4).
One word-- Powerprint. It has worked reliably for me since I ran an Okidata ML 92 (9 pin dot matrix) on a Plus running 6.0.4 to a rev A iMac running 8.6. Macs do not "speak" PCL-the language of HP printers natively, they need an interpereter. Also your Mac's serial port doesn't tranlate to the HP's expectation of a PC's output. PowerPrint is a hardware and software combo that takes care of both of these. I believe they still make the serial version and I know they make a USB version. Since you are looking at a G4, I would recomend the USB version and buying a USB card for the beige, if you don't already have one. BTW, if you are going to be printing complex documents, I highly recomend making sure that the LJ4 has at least 8 meg additional ram in it.
