One word-- Powerprint. It has worked reliably for me since I ran an Okidata
ML 92 (9 pin dot matrix) on a Plus running 6.0.4 to a rev A iMac running
8.6.

Macs do not "speak" PCL-the language of HP printers natively, they need an
interpereter. Also your Mac's serial port doesn't tranlate to the HP's
expectation of a PC's output.

PowerPrint is a hardware and software combo that takes care of both of
these. I believe they still make the serial version and I know they make a
USB version. Since you are looking at a G4, I would recomend the USB
version and buying a USB card for the beige, if you don't already have one.

BTW, if you are going to be printing complex documents, I highly recomend
making sure that the LJ4 has at least 8 meg additional ram in it.
