Hi listers,
I was trying to add a longer IDE cable for the drives in my
beige G3 (768MB RAM, 333MHz) when I discovered that my G3 began doing
the no bong thing on startup. I tried reseating the ZIF and RAM...no
effect. Rewired the drives back to their original state...no effect
either.
As far as I can tell, there seems to be nothing wrong with the
power supply...both hard disks spin up, the CD-RW powers up (I could get
the tray to slide out), and the LED lit up (albeit briefly) on my 250MB
Zip drive. Fan installed on my heatsink also ran when powered up, just
no bong and a dark screen. I would have even be glad to hear the sound
of breaking glass.
So, what's the verdict? Dead ZIF? Dead mobo? Seems like
another illustration of the old adage not to fix things that ain't
broke.
