hook it up to another mac via scsii (I believe it's referred to as using your 
HD as a "slave" in the literature) and use the other mac to control and 
reformat the HD on yours with OS 8 or 9, whatever you want. So, after you 
enslave your puter, first do a zero level format on yours (available in 
preferences when you launch the disc utlitiy program located on the os 
startup disc) and then install the system...or, you might load an operating 
system on the hard drive and then use it to reformat your computer...hope 
this helps,
