I just read this article and thought it might be of some interest to the
readers of this list.  Sounds like the death knell is ringing for OS 9:

New Macs will only boot X

>From January next year new Macs will no longer be able to boot in Mac OS 9.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced today that Mac OS X will be the only system
with which new Macs will be able to start-up, though will still be able to
utilize the Classic mode - OS 9 running with OS X - to run older
applications that are not OS X compatible... All resources will be directed
toward the development of the OS X platform, and will no longer be
supporting OS 9.
