There are different varieties of "classic" iMac, but it sounds like you have
the DV variety since you say it was easy to install RAM. Getting to the hard
drive is relatively easy, too. Turn the iMac upside down and remove all the
screws that hold the bottom of the shell on.

Getting the top shell off, now that's a challenge!
