The same thing happened with my G-4 last week. I couldn't figure it out at all. Finally, I accidentally pushed the off switch on the power strip underneath the desk which shut off the computer and monitor. I turned it back on immediately, and the screen came back on and hasn't acted up since. It's worth a try, after the computer boots up, simply turn off the power for a few seconds and then restart it and see if that doesn't reset the monitor. After you get the display back, then rebuild the desktop and zap the PRAM.
