I treat my screens as I do my camera lenses. I seldom use any liquids. I've
found a very soft camel's hair 1-1/2 brush that I use to dust the screens
occasionally. When a spot turns up that the brushing can't dislodge. I use
plain water on a clean lint-free cloth. No paper of any kind, not even
tissues. Never had any problems using that method. I have an Apple Trinitron
CRT for my G3 Blue and a Phillips LCD flat panel for my Dell PC.

If you have a preventive POV and are handy with basic tools and glue, you can
make a screen cover from illustration board cut to the size of the screen
fastened to a wood ledge that grips the top of the monitor. I never use a
cover to enclose the entire monitor because that traps heat so the cathode
can't cool off.
