"Porthole" refers to the (Retro) decorative holes on the front of the
new Pro Towers. These decorative holes were copied from the decorative
holes on the older Buick cars and were called "Portholes" on the Buick.
The Porthole describes these new towers more than any other feature.
The shiny drive bays seem a minor characteristic buy comparison. When
these Macs first showed up on rumor sites this was the feature that
most of us noted. There were several Mac web sites that talked about
the relationship of the new Mac Portholes to the old Buick Portholes;
Charles Moore on LEM was one of the sites that ran a lot about the
Buick Connection. Before these towers were released they were usually
referred to by people referencing the Porthole feature. So, a Porthole
867 is a new Pro Tower 867 dp, double optical bay "mirrored doors".
