I just added a second hard drive to my G3/300 rev 3 e/w 320 MB RAM, OS 8.6, 7.8 GB original hard drive, ZIP and CD-ROM.
The new drive is a Maxtor 60 GB 7200 rpm. To make room I moved the ZIP and CD drives down to the bottom positions and left the floppy at the top position. I wanted to retain the original drive as is for normal use while playing and learning OS 10.2. The cable supplied with the new drive was barely long enough but by mounting the drive back farther than normal it connected. The jumpers on the new drive were set to slave. The new drive was formatted to HFS+ into four partitions. This may have been overkill. We will see. 7.9 GB for OS 10.2, 5.1 GB for OS 9.2.2, 10 GB for applications, and the remainder for data. Installed OS 10.2. It seemed to go well and booted OK. Got a lot to learn. Installed OS 9.2.2. For some reason in OS 9.2.2. the monitor will not wake from sleep. A hard startup will do it. Sleep and wake works OK in OS 8.6. Any suggestions? I will stick to OS 8.6 for a working system for a bit longer as I don't want to confuse the other user (my wife) until I am more able to deal with her queries. So, in conclusion, it went well.
