I use an Airport Base Station to do this. Get a small Ethernet hub, connect the ABS, the Beige G3, and your internet connection to it, assuming your internet connection is on Ethernet. Actually IIRC the newer ABS units have two Ethernet connections so you would not need the hub unless you have other Ethernet connections, like a network printer. My ABS is the original model.
If it's a dial-up connection, use the modem in the ABS. In this case, you can probably dispense with the hub and use a crossover cable direct from the ABS to the G3. Your Network or TCP/IP control panel settings must be correct to get this (or any networking scheme) to work. Apple's documentation from their web site is very helpful in this regard. Instructions are available on the net to modify the ABS to accept an external antenna. I believe the ABS uses a Lucent card as you require. However you may not really need to as the ABS signal carries quite a distance, especially if it is near a window. I am aware that some think the ABS is overpriced. However it will work out of the box without any monkeying around if that is important to you. From time to time 'reconditioned' units are available.
