Mitch has expounded on my initial description quite nicely.  The outlet is
still on the back of the after-beige towers (mine is a rev. 2 B&W, btw), but
it supplies power whenever the computer is plugged in (whether on or off).

That is not switched, more like a pass-thru (probably makes smaller power
supplies possible or something) and the root of the original question posted
by Ben.

He was looking for a method to get that power-on functionality back (for the
more lazy folks on the list, including me).

Mine.

It's a rev 1, not sure if early or late (but it eats slave drives for lunch,
that I do know). There's an outlet there all right, but it's definitely not
switched -- that is, it supplies power whether the computer is on or not. I
still use it, but I've got to treat it like any other wall outlet.
