sounds like a problem with the receiver, probably a cracked solder joint. sometimes
they come from the factory that way, some times a little strain over a long time or
repeated occasional tugs will do it. if you can solder, or know someone who can,
that's the place to start. to verify this, try it directly to the tv for a day or two
for testing, if it works direct, then you know it's most likely the receiver
(intermittents do sometimes play strange games and have sent many technicians to the
funny farm). it could also be oxidation on the connectors on the receiver etc., but
they've probably been wiped clean if you've swapped cables a few times, it could
obviously be a more difficult problem with the receiver, the mux chips can go out, or
there may be a bad solder joint somewhere besides at the jack, that's just the most
common. of course it's also possible the mux chips or other parts have simply failed,
though parts fail far less often than most people (including repair shops) think, it's
just an easy thing for a shop t try and an obvious possibility.

"There are reminders to all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch
what they do, and this is not a time for remarks like that; there never is." White
House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, how much blood will it take to win back the first
amendment, which the Bush administration clearly does not support! The thought police
are amongst us.
