This probably won't work, but it's worth a try-- try putting the IP address in the chooser window-- perhaps even specifying the port (e.g. 192.168.3.3:548, with 192.168.3.3 replaced by the server's IP address). You might also look in the OS X machine's logs. I don't have OS X, but I have Darwin and the logs are under /var/log/ (which seems to be disk::private::var::log in Mac OS 9, but you'll want to use bbedit to look at the files-- they use Unix line endings).
