You DON'T want one. These were made by Global Village (which is now bankrupt), and have some fundamental (and fatal) flaws: 1) they can only hold firmware for ONE variant of 56 kbs at one time, 2) downloading of firmware is done through the Appletalk port, and takes a long time, 3) firmware is not up-to-date, 4) the modem takes about five times as long to "connect" as does an external modem, due in large part to the inability of the modem to "train" properly, 5) connections with this modem are often at a much slower baud rate than with an external modem, and 6) the modem is much more sensitive to line conditions than an external modem. Save your money and buy an good external modem, such as a USR Mac-n-FAX. But, toss out the USR-provided FAX software, and get a license for ValueFax. ValueFAX is a pretty cool program, with far greater capabilities than the USR-provided program. Best, Peter. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
