I've never ever had any problem with Norton I remember the version we used to
use in High School to maintain "healthy macs" was Norton 2.0, When I got my
own Mac, (a Mac Plus) I had to get it (maybe 3.0 or 3.5 something like that)
I don't even know what version I have now I just bought it from eBay about a
year ago. Really never had any of the accidents people had, most of those
were provoked by using the program without the CD, starting up from the CD
was always recommended because it can effectively unmount the harddrive to be
checked & mounted back. I never missed any of the warnings Symantec gave to
the users about what to do or not to do, if you ask me any program can screw
up your harddrive the key is knowing how to do it and above all follow the
directions. (ALSO don't run to the store to buy software as it comes out
before paying attention to the side effects the users experiences, I've never
purchased new software; I usually buy it used with original disks.
