Ray, It has something to do with the chip arrangement. It only sees 128 if all 256 is one side or if it isn't all on one side- don't recall which, I had this experience also on a beige dt. You should be able to use it in newer (not newest, but not original) iMacs like the slot-loading DV SE for example as well as g4's like the agp 350. Not sure about the b&w though since I think I remember that those boards are a variant of the beige board.
