OWC links a lot of the info on their products from the sales page, not the tech center page. Go here (if you haven't already) for info on their G3 533:
<http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=4627&Item=OWCZ533MA> Your basic premise seems valid, assuming you included setting the logic board clock speed in your 'drop it in' process. This is in the tech center at: <http://eshop.macsales.com/Tech/Load_Page.cfm?page=beigeg3zif2.html> Although the cache should just work with no software required, there is one issue they discuss that you may want to consider. Although the cache chips are rated at 250 MHz, they will run at 275 MHz unless you use cache control software to clock them down. Here's the quote from OWC: ". . . (Cache chips are rated at 250MHz, default Mac OS speed will be 275MHz). By using 3rd party Cache Enabling software the cache can be downclocked to 2.5:1 for a safety margin if desired. However, every OWC Mercury G3/533 is pretested at the default 2:1 cache ratio (275MHz) as a quality control measure before shipping."
