Macs are a nonentity in the commodity drive business. Lite-on (Chinese for "Right On" ... really) products are intended for the commodity PC market, and that market alone. That your Lite-on drive works ... functionally ... in you Mac is indeed good news. Others have reported the same thing here and elsewhere. However, Lite-on and other commodity drives are not necessarily tested for compatibility outside of the PC market. More specifically, they are not tested for physical compatibility (trays, bezels, connectors, etcetera). Many of these drives do not have a Mac-type audio output connector, although all drives have a standard power input connector (AMP Mate-N-Lock). Apple has to accommodate different drive physical characteristics, as even t he Apple-specified (and branded) drives don't all have the same physical characteristics. At last count, there were three different Apple-designed CD-ROM bezels for the Beige machines, and none were suitable for any but the oldest (4416, e.g.) or latest (8824, e.g.) Yamaha drives. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
