Hello

after reading many files and posts about installing OS X on a
beige G3, I am wiser on one hand but also more confused on the
other.

my current system:
- beige G3/233 Desktop, upgraded with a G4/450 from XLR8 (XLR8
2.6.1 driver)
- MacOS 9.2.2
- 640 MB RAM
- 60 GB int IDE hard drive
partiotions: 7.5 GB: MacOS X (planned)
               7.5 GB: MacOS 9.22 + applications
               7.5 GB: data
7.5 GB: MacOS 9.1 + apps for audio (stripped down
OS)
               30 GB: audio files
- Adaptec DUOconnect PCI USB/Firewire card
- Audio card: either Emagic Audiowerk 2 or Digidesign Audimedia
III
- ext. SCSI: Scanner (Agfa SnapScan 1236s), Jaz(1GB) and Yamaha
CDRW burner
- ext. USB: HB Deskjet 970cxi, Palm Vx and Panasonic digital
Video camera
- ext. Firewire: iPod and Panasonic digital Video camera

I want to install OS X onto the first 7.5 GB partition to try it
out and see how it works on my Mac but want to be on the safe
side and keep my 'old' 9.22 until I have made up my desicion
about using X or 9.

questions:
- do I have to remove the PCI cards before installation
- do I have to put the G3/233 ZIF processor back in for
installation
- which OS X driver do have to use with the XLR8 G4/450 (I think
XLR8 2.6.1 isn't OS X compatible)
- what about scsi ... unplug the ext. devices for installation?
- what else to not forget about

- what is the best OS X book ?

I tried to install OS X on my system as is yesterday and the
screen was filled with green lines after 30 min. and there were
4 undeletable folders on my OS X partition. Now I am a little
frightened about trying it again. without good preparation.

any help appreciated.
cheers
-widu
