Shouldn't have to.

No.

Get either the PowerLogix cache controller softare from PowerLogix, or 
L2CacheConfig from the OSX pages at OWC. Your system will be sluggish 
until you enable the onboard cache.

OSX the Missing Manual, from Oreilly books.

Does your system reboot into the installer? If so, select Disk Utility 
from the Installer menu and reformat the OSX partition.
