Just in time for Xmas... a little present for yall =)

when I first joined the G-List I offered up a little goody to the group in
the form of a voodoo flashing kit I had compiled of downloads Id collected
of the years.... ( btw isnt advisable to flash a Voodoo4, had too many
failed tries..besides a V5 is $30 more and twice the card... IMHO)

Now Ive traded or sold away all my PCI machines and now have AGP ports to
contend with... Good news is I finally got up enough coconuts to take a
chance on wasting $80 on a used PC / 8500 Radeon card... it came today. I
did all I was suppose to and let Santa do the rest...and whabam I now have
a card that ATI Displays sees as a Radeon 8500, and as far as I cant tell
works without a hitch... just did some slaying in UT and Ghost Recon to
test it out, also ran photoshop (just in case) and everything is smooth as
butter =) ASP reads it as an ATY,DDParent ATY,R200 model... 64mb

* also this was done with my Sawtooth, so a PC is not needed....as usual =)

I also have a Mac Edition 8500 coming in the mail in the near future so
at that time I can run some tests and see how they compare... I do know
that the PC version is a little bit faster because the MacEdition runs at
250 and the PC version I used flashed to 275 as per the firmware.

* note... this voids all kinds of warranties and is probably against some
laws of nature to convert such things from the dark-side, but Ive rescued
one poor card from a life of servitude beneath a Windose OS, though I cant
guarantee others will go as willingly. ...but I can tell you how I did it
and provide the necessary firmware.

...if you need to upgrade to a 64mb AGP card then Merry Christmas, you
just saved $100. Though I would also like to ADD that ATI has a fairly
nice deal going... they just wouldnt combine the tradeup offer with the free
shipping option =( Oh and I feel about as bad from not supporting a
Mac-product manufacturer as ATI does about taking pretty much the exact same
card, adding different firmware, and changing a few words on the box and
justifying a $100 increase over the PC model.

I havent watched a DVD or used the 2nd monitor yet either, but shows up as
such in the monitor control panel.

Ralph

*I just ran thru a few minutes of Matrix/DVD and it looks great on my 20" @
1024 rez.
