G'day from Oz, Myke. There can be real problems with a Rev A G3 and a lot of usb cards. I'm talking from experience with a 233 mhz beige here, but think you'll strike the same hurdles.
The latest install of 9.2.x installs the 1.5.1 usb drivers, and they can cause major hassles. Most users remove the offending 6 usb extensions, and install the 1.4.1 set. That clears up a lot of cards, but by no means all. You get a boot-up message about a video extension not loading, so just use the extensions manager to disable it. Some users even try the 1.3.5 set, but they're hard to get. The Apple site installer gets in a huff, and won't co-operate. Didn't work for me. I went through 5 cards before my dealer came up with a Aus $59 card that works with the 1.4.1 extensions, but freezes with the 1.5.1 set. It works fine with iTunes and Toast Lite. Jaguar is no problem with any card, nor is Classic. There is a major thread in Apple discussion re. this problem. Hopefully, this will drop you right in the deep end! http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?13@@.3bbc4903/6 Unfortunately, I don't know about any combo cards, as I have separate usb & FireWire cards, all made in Taiwan, and totalling Aus $90 for 4 usb, 3 FW ports (about US $46). I originally bought a Aus $25 usb 4 port Taiwan card, but it refused to work. The manufacturer had never struck the problem before, so re-funded. A lot of people buy a Rev B or C rom and install. It has the additional benefit of allowing a second internal drive. Too expensive an option in Oz though. Try eBay, or a Google search. I know I found one that was cheaper than the eBay going rate. This will allow virtually any card to be used. You might do what I did re. usb, and told my dealer I would not pay him until he sold me a fully compatible card. Just kept returning them within the Credit Card refund period. Don't think I'm popular but. Regards Santa. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
