I've already sent a nasty email to the author, but it's still eating me up....

As a one-time AOL user, I can tell you that all AOL users are not technically incompetent idiots; some of us are quite tech savvy. More than anyone else, AOL has made the Internet experience easily accessible to millions upon millions of computer users, Mac users among them. It is more widely available than any other ISP, excessively user friendly, and not much more expensive than most alternatives. Attacking someone simply because they use AOL is counterproductive. It puts them on the offensive and makes you look like a rude inconsiderate boor. It certainly won't give them any reason to look for alternatives to AOL. If you believe that it is a mistake for anyone to use AOL (as many Mac users also say about Windows), you are far better off explaining why you think "real" ISPs are better than AOL's hand holding. But attacking another user simply because they use AOL is not only rude, it will not be tolerated on this list. Secondly, we explicitly ask that postings to the list never include PGP key blocks. They are meaningless to most computer users and a waste of space.
