Aloha, I am a new subscriber. Isn't it funny how we find these resources when we really do stupid things? I've read the archives.
It a fit of stupidity, and just wanting to see if it would work, I took my external hard drive in which OS X was installed, connected it to my 300 MHz Beige G3 desktop using a third party USB card. I chose OS X as my startup and rebooted. BLANK SCREEN. Nothing seems to work. BTW: keep in mind that I use an old Apple Color Monitor which is 640x480. So, I pulled the USB card and tried to boot from a retail OS 8 CD, holding down the C key... But, I really never hear the CD mounting "click" I get the reboot tone okay every time I start up... no other tones. Can anyone help me get working again. It seems that other blank screen problems are similar. I just don't know what to do next. One idea I haven't tried is setting the display resolution on the external HD to 640x480 and trying to boot via USB again. What do you think? I would be happy with direct emails of suggestions... I can wait until the digest for "you can't do it like that" comments. Thanks, Patrick -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
