I agree with all you said, but -probably/maybe (?)- is not entirely true. For some reason I had an external SCSI unsupported drive that once in a while would boot from the OS CD (one in perhaps 20 times). Very time consuming and upsetting to expect it to work when you wanted/needed it to, but just letting everyone know, can't tell which brand since it didn't show any on case and I had just borrowed it from someone.
