You might have a weak PRAM battery. It's a quick fix...just pull the old one 
and snap in the new one. The direction for the battery polarity is marked 
right on the motherboard. My Blue-and-white G3 wouldn't chime until I did 
that. Now I get that majestic, lovely sound again...it's so much nicer than 
the "feep!" you hear when a PC boots.
