Renita, The Linksys router has a firewall built into it. This means that it will not necessarily pass certain data through to the computers connected to it. Different applications use different ports e.g., FTP uses port 21 and http uses port 80 typically. The 'forwarding' feature I described earlier allows you to override the firewall setting for ports that might otherwise be blocked. You do this via the 'Admin' URL for the Linksys router which is http://192.168.1.1 There is a default user ID and password that is documented in your Linksys manual if you didn't change it when it was installed.
You can then 'allow' the AOL AIM messages through once you know which port they use. AOL support should know. Hope this helps, John -----Original Message----- From: G-List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Renita Williams Sent: Monday, January 20, 2003 1:56 PM To: G-List Subject: Re: cant receive files using AOL IM Hi Ryan, Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I don't understand what you are suggesting. I am having my husband take a look at your directions to see if he understands.
