that's a common problem. os 9 needs a desktop folder, you didn't get one on the cd rom. what has worked for others, when burning the cd copy, is to first make a disk image, mount it, and use a utility to build/rebuild the desktop file on it, then burn the image to a cd. i think that's how it's been done, at least when people have wanted to add something like diagnostic software to the cd. i have also heard of people telling toast to copy the whole disk, including blank blocks which apparently also works. in any case, you need a silly desktop. if you have some working os on the machine, you should also just be able to copy the installer and it's files to the disk and run the installer from their, assuming you have a partition you can boot on and another that you can install the software on. it's late, but i think that's right, no doubt someone who's done it recently will provide a more coherent answer after the sun's up (by which time i'll be in bed hopefully!).
