yep, i've had that problem from soda residue.  in any case it's 
probably some sort of gunk.  you can soak it for a day or 2 in 
distilled water (it takes some patience to get it to fill up with water 
but it will if  you hold it down for a while and gently squeeze the 
sides).  after it soaks (i've used fresh water after the first day when 
it was bad) drain it thoroughly and place it by a heat vent for a 
couple of days until it dries out completely.  works great, i've had to 
do that twice. (i'm an rc cola junkie, it's always by the machine and 
the sugar does eventually tend to gum up the mouse).
