Actually I was thinking of the Mac firmware update as well as the 
Radeon update.

I'm pretty sure they recommend running the Radeon update from 9.x

My Radeon 7000 freezes 9.2.2 if I boot with a monitor plugged in. 
plugging into the old video outlet allows booting, even with card 
installed.

Can you try just one monitor in original video, non in card. Might 
isolate the problem.
