MAC is an acronym for Machine Address Code, also known as the ethernet hardware address. Mac is the normal nickname for an Apple Macintosh computer. Sorry, but it's continually annoying to have people shouting MAC at me. :-/ > Has anyone had any experience with the Maxtor card > or am I just wasting my time with it? Probably wasting your time with it. 'recognized by the system' in this context is 'recognized as a ata controller.' not 'recognized that something is there'. Check out OWC <http://www.macsales.com> for some reasonably priced ATA cards for the Mac. > > I also have a Canon CanoScan D1250U2F scanner that I just plugged in to > a USB 2.0 slot. Well, there's a problem...you don't *have* a USB 2.0 slot. Make sure the scanner also works with USB 1.1. The system profiler also identifies it but the latest > downloaded version of VueScan says 'no scanner is found'. The Vuescan site doesn't list that model as a supported scanner: <http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#supported> In fact, it explicitly lists the Canon 1250 as an *unsupported* scanner.
