Yes, this is nice, I've got it working myself.

Caveats:

The OpenOffice download is > 100 MB, so this is a broadband thing only,
or having a friend with a fast connection and a CD burner.

Integration is spotty, at best. Under Apple's X11 implementation, cut
and paste works between X11 apps and native OSX apps, but you still
can't double-click on a document and get the app to open.

Open Office is nice, but definitely a beta. I blows up some times for no
particular reason, it's slow (at least on my Beige G3 upgr to G4/466)
and the interface is decidedly Windows-like. A native OSX port is in the
works, tentatively scheduled for release late this year or early next,
at the rate it's being worked on.

I REALLYY REALLY wish Apple would scoop this up and native-ize it like
they did Safari.

That said, I'm really glad to have it running on my Mac at home, since
OO is my suite I use at work on my PC except fro database stuff, for
which I still need Excel because the ODBC integration of Open Office'es
spreadsheet app is remarkable for it's utter and totally confusing and
opaque setup.

I have still not gotten it to work, and database integration is a large
part of what I *do* for a living...
