okay, i just tried apple+option+P+R to zap the pram. I didn't get any beeps, however, it did boot up to a different screen than usual. This one was grey, lots of little dots, and i had a mouse pointer. Then I tried holding down c to boot from the cd. At that point the computer went back to the usual white screen with the unblinking cursor. I don't have the original os x cd's, I have some on order from ebay and should be here this week. I also don't have an original apple cd drive, so I'm not sure if this one is apple bootable. I could boot from it in my pc however. When the machine is booting up I can hear it accessing the cdrw drive quite frequently. However, I don't know if it's getting anything off it. Any more suggestions?
