It's not much of a risk really since the instructions are there on how to do
it and you're going by what others have done before you.  So you know what
mistakes NOT to make.  Now taking a G3/300 and boosting it to 500 MHZ IS
asking for a fried CPU.  Increasing your CPU by 100mhz only is just trying
to squeeze out its potential.  I would have gone to 450 but I took the
advice of others who said that it wasn't stable at that speed.  Why sit at
only 300MHZ?  I've noticed that my B&W is faster now when booting and when
running applications (especially in 9.2).  Playstation games (using VGS) run
smoother and faster.  Overall it doesn't feel as sluggish as it did before
-- or maybe it's all psychological.
