I've used File Buddy since version 4. And I've paid for every upgrade
since then to version 7. I have found it very useful and often
necessary tool over the years.

Besides using the basic search features, I've used the droplet maker
(for changing file names/types/creators/dates or what have you, en
masse), fixed aliases, searched for prefs that have no creator, made
changes to dates of some demo apps so I could keep using them, erased
unused space on my hard disk (File Buddy writes zeros to the space and
makes files unrecoverable), rebuilt the desktop, and more.

I have updated to version 7 and still find it extremely useful in OS 9
where it is my search engine (I trashed Sherlock long ago). I have
found less need of File Buddy in OS X, due to less maintenance needed.
And the more advanced Finder in Jaguar serves my needs most of the time.

If you are at present pre-OSX, I would say that the shareware fee is
not too much for what you get, and the authors are very accessible folk
as well - so you pay for great customer service!

If you are at present using OSX (especially Jaguar) I can't quite
recommend File Buddy, unless you are one that enjoys an arsenal of
quite useful tools. In that case, you will find a lot to offer in File
Buddy.
