I suppose now one could run "joe", a Unix work-alike of Wordstar on OSX.
Slightly more user-friendly than vi.

And more on topic, the very first time I used a Mac, a 1st generation one,
no hard disk, I inserted the system floppy (which I had borrowed). A prompt
came up "Initialise disk?" Since this seemed to mean "begin", I clicked to
go ahead, and of course the disk was reformatted.

More disturbingly, on my Beige, about 1 time in 10 boots the IDE disk fails
to be recognised, and the same message comes up, so I am very careful how I
respond -- the default is to reformat.
