Updating the original post on the G3 USB/scanner issue: Apples's System
Profiler in OS 10.2.4 was correct in that it "saw" the USB card. I looked a
little more carefully at it. I had misinterpreted it's statement: "no USB
devices connected." I'm used to OS 8.1 on a 7100/66 (and no expert at
that), so apologies to all. The USB card is functioning fine.
With regard to the scanner problem, i.e., it not being found by the
Scanwise software. At first I thought that there couldn't be a SCSI ID
problem because there was only one SCSI device connected to the machine, the
scanner. System Profiler told me that it found an HP product on the bus and
gave a product number. At first I thought that referred to the scanner, but
then I remembered there is a tape drive in the computer. I didn't realise
it is a
SCSI device, but it is. In Profiler it has "target 2". I assume this means
ID 2. The scanner has ID 4 so there isn't an ID conflict. However, System
Profiler doesn't list it as being on the SCSI bus.
The scanner is a Snapscan 1236s. I downloaded the appropriate OSX
compatible version of Scanwise from the Agfa site, and downloaded another
larger "all scanners" version of the same software, but neither one can
detect the scanner. The scanner's cable is fine. I have been using it
recently with the 7100 and it works fine. Thanks in advance for any input
on this. John.
