Thats what I thought but since then the following has happened .... I bought a brand new Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 80 Gb ATA133 to put in as a slave in my G4/400 OS9.2.1.
I used Drive Setup 2.0.7 that came with OS9.2.1 I could see the disk as expected, so formatted it and partitioned it with 3 partitions. All appeared on the desktop as expected. I copied lots of files to one of the partitions ..watched TV... then later shutdown computer at bedtime. It beeped 5-10 times on shutdown (which was unusual and curious). This morning on powering up, Finder said that it could not read 2 volumes and wanted to format them. I cancelled and continued to see that only one of the 3 partitions was on the desktop. At this time, Drive Setup could still see it, so, partitioned the whole thing again into 2 this time. Copied a file onto both partitions. Seemed OK. Shutdown. But now neither of the partitions are on the desktop on restart. Tried some utilities, tried booting from CD, tried it as slave and as master, on IDE0 and IDE2 .....etc etc but nothing can see it not even Drive Setup. Tried an old disk out of a PC in its place, that old disk works OK. The situation is that now the new disk beeps and clicks for 5-10 seconds when power is applied but then the computer freezes, so it would appear to be a hardware problem??? Can anyone think of a reason why this new disk has gone belly-up, considering that it worked on the very first occasion and went downhill from there. Some sort of progressive mismatch perhaps? > From: michael Vogt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (G-List) > Date: Tue, 11 Mar 2003 20:57:58 -0700 > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (G-List) > Subject: Re: ATA133 disk in an older G4 > > That is the way my G4 400 is running right and I have 9.2.2 on the > master drive and 80 gig as a slave and it has 10.2.4 on it and its ATA > 133 works great > On Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at 08:46 PM, Peter Franklin wrote: > >> I should be able to instal a new ATA133 80Gb disk in a G4/400/OS9.2.1 >> as a >> slave alongside the existing disk even though the IDE channel is >> probably >> ATA66 or similar?
