When you dragged over the files MANY file permissions were mangled, most 
likely.

If the old drive is still there, try using Carbon Copy Cloner...it 
works; that's how I did just such a transfer.

If the old drive isn't, you can *try* running the 'Repair Disk 
Permissions' tool in Disk Utility.
