Greg, At least James gave us some evidence to his success with Norton. I rarely if ever see anyone offer evidence to the contrary, only their opinion that it is "bad".
I am willing to believe that Norton is bad, but my science background demands proof (not opinions). You will never convince anyone that it is dangerous without offering your experience with it. There are plenty of people with good experiences of using Norton. The last place I worked at, it was the 1st thing run on almost any computer (Mac/Win) that came in. We did so with great success. At times it was all the computer really needed. > >> I have used Norton Utilities on Macs for years but (1) never >> install it and (2) be very careful about using disk doctor to repair >> a computer that has problems you don't know the extent of. >> >> Disk doctor works well on computers that are maintained >> regularly but when used on a computer that has a lot of software >> problems that have built up and compounded over time, disk doctor can >> make it worse. >> >> I consider it an excellent tool for my own use because I keep >> my computers maintained but I'm very wary when using it on someone >> else's computer. > > Norton Utilities for Mac can create nightmares of epic proportions, and I > wouldn't let it near a Mac in its shrinkwrap. > > On 9.1, I can generally fix anything by deleting the "Naughty Nine" (or so) > prefs and replacing them from clean back-ups of those prefs, copied from > another drive. > > If more troubleshooting is needed, I run TechTool Pro 3 from the CD.
