I don't think so. I don't think digital capture has anything to do with vram or
video cards.
The apple tech note I've seen refers to capturing digital video through one of
the AV personality cards. They don't want you overlapping windows etc. I don't
think this is relavent to more recent DV capture techiniques, though it may
apply to what you are doing.
Have you actually had problems with capture? I don't know the formac pci card
but I use a firewire/usb combo card to do video capture. I have a Canon zr40
(about $450 these days.) camcorder which will encode analog to video in real
time so I can digitize my old hi8 tapes. The results are excellent.
My machine is a Beige MT with a OWC 466 G4. Captures are excellent, even with
everything running except Appletalk, though I usually capture with most stuff
disabled for safety.
Don't knock the old Beige as a digital video studio. It has, or can be given,
what it takes, just barely.
Exporting DV by firewire is another story, though.
