G'day Mike

As well as Jared's comments, you need to remove the three cables from
the rear of the existing CD.

First, remove the power lead to the Mac, crack the case, and ground
yourself on the power supply. The ribbon cable can be difficult. I use
a pair of long nose pliers gripped on each side, and lever from the top
of the case.

To remove the drive, pull up a piece of plastic on the tray underneath,
and the drive should slide out.

Take note of which way the tray is mounted (the tab at the front),
remove the plastic tray and mount it on the new drive.

Slide it in, re-cable, then power back in, re-boot.

Just in case you have any trouble with the Lite-on, you might need to
upgrade to 9.2.2. I think it's necessary to run the latest iTunes that
was compatible with 9.

Regards

Santa

And what, you ask, was the beginning of it all?
And it is this......
Existence that multiplied itself
For sheer delight of being
And plunged with numberless trillions of forms
So that it might
find
itself
innumerably
